Writing Exercise
Thanks for moving forward. This exercise helps us understand how you write and think through an unfamiliar audience.

The exercise:
Write an explanation of Daylight Saving Time, addressed to a curious 7-year-old. The child knows what clocks are, knows what bedtime feels like, and has noticed that sometimes it stays light outside later than other times. They've just asked why grown-ups change the clocks twice a year, and they want a real answer (not "because we just do"). Your job is to explain it to them, including some of the complications it causes.

A few notes on what we're looking for:

Clarity over comprehensiveness. We're more interested in how you communicate with an unfamiliar audience than in how thoroughly you cover every historical detail of DST.

Your voice matters. Write in your own style. Please don't outsource this to AI tools — we're looking for how you think and write.

Proactive thinking helps. If you spot something the child might be confused by, address it. We notice.
